Rugby Rocks Yorkshire!

Written by Alex Foster - Editor, on .

This summer sees the launch of the third RugbyRocks Festival, a fusion of mass-participation sports and music.

This 15-17 June, Bradford & Bingley RFC will host the inaugural RugbyRocks Yorkshire. The festival will host rugby Sevens, 10s, Touch and netball tournaments as well as live music and entertainment throughout the weekend. Whether you’re an Elite level player or a ‘Weekend Warrior’ there is a competition for everyone.

For those wanting to make a weekend of it there will be an onsite campsite. There will be a live outdoor screening of England vs. Sweden at the UEFA European Championship on Friday night and the England vs. South Africa rugby test match on Saturday afternoon.
The music line-up will be announced in coming weeks. Players and spectators can kick-back in the Puma Social where they can enjoy DJ sets and rub shoulders with leading rugby stars. The lounge will feature bar games, such as table football and table tennis.

This year’s RugbyRocks London festival takes place once again at The Athletic Ground, Richmond on 26-27 May and is offering camping for the first time in the event’s history.

In 2011, the men’s Elite competition was won by Samurai with the Wooden Spoons overcoming England 7s in the final of the women’s tournament.

This summer will be equally as tough and there will be an additional challenge in the men’s competition. Bragging rights will be on the line when Super League’s London Broncos will be representing the rugby league fraternity.
RugbyRocks has also agreed a long-term partnership with leading sports nutrition company Optimum Nutrition. Under the partnership the winners of the Optimum Nutrition Men’s and Women’s Open will not only win a hefty prize fund but also a year’s sponsorship from Optimum.
There will be a PUMA Social, live outdoor broadcasts of the AVIVA Premiership final and England vs. The Barbarians as well as a VIP area in association with Fulham nightclub Embargo 59.
Organisers have already announced the first acts including DJs Benji Boko and Goldierocks as well as an acoustic set by England cricket legend and ‘Strictly’ star Mark Butcher.

The final event of the summer is RugbyRocks Edinburgh on 14-15 July. Last year saw The Batmen defeat Melrose in a hotly contested Elite Competition. Man-of-the-Tournament and England international Hamish Smales was on top form on a beautiful summer’s day at Boroughmuir RFC.

Once again festival goers will descend on Edinburgh for the RugbyRocks After-Party, featuring some of the UK’s leading DJs.
All rugby teams entering RugbyRocks festivals are entitled to a 15% discount on Puma kits and there are huge entry discounts for teams entering more than one tournament.
